Mourning the loss of our founding member, John H. Pinkard, Jr.

John Henry was a stalwartly FotoCrafter– providing over 75 years of dedicated service to the club. He was a founding member of the club and his image appears in the 1940’s image of the club. The club had been organized in 1937.  A retired physicist from the National

Bureau of Standards. He received recognition for his work on a missile tracking project known as the “The Bat.” A devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church Mr. Pinkard’s  technical skills were put to great use in recording that churches history.  He was a teacher, and musician/ violinist, chess player, Member of Photographic Society of America for over 57 years and a photo essayist.  He was first to provide structural teaching guidelines to the club on how to present slide shows –making good use of his local US travels, European and China trips. In addition, he was an archivist for the club

This film is comprised primarily of clips from a video oral history with John H. Pinkard, Jr., one of the founders of the FotoCraft Camera Club. The group was founded in 1937, and met at the Anthony Bowen YMCA in Washington, DC.
